A 30-year-old man from Oshawa is facing two counts of first-degree murder following a fatal Toronto shooting that claimed the lives of a man and a woman on Saturday afternoon.

The incident occurred near Jane Avenue and Glenforest Street, north of Rossland Road West and east of Thornton Road North.

Durham Regional Police Service (DRPS) responded to the area shortly after 12:30 p.m. after receiving reports of gunshots.

Sgt. Joanne Bortoluss informed reporters on Saturday that the responding officers found a man who had been shot.

The victim, identified as 42-year-old Patrick Montgomery, was transported by ambulance to a nearby high school, where an Ornge air ambulance awaited to fly him to a Toronto hospital.

Unfortunately, he died during transport.

He remains held for a bail hearing. Police confirmed that Gordon knew the victims but are still investigating the motive behind the Toronto shooting.

They clarified that the incident was not domestic-related and assured the public that there was no ongoing threat to safety.

“Our thoughts are with those affected by this tragedy, and we will provide more information in the coming days,” Bortoluss said.
